Filametrics V2 Is Live: A Complete Rebuild for the Future of Print Farm Management

After months of focused development and a full quarter code freeze, Filametrics Version 2 is officially live.

While some updates may appear subtle on the surface, this release represents the most significant transformation in the platform’s history — a complete re-architecture designed to support scalability, integrations, and rapid innovation moving forward.

Why Version 2 Required a Full Rebuild

As Filametrics grew, it became clear that incremental updates would no longer support the long-term vision of the platform.

To deliver on:

  • Deep integrations with print farm ecosystems
  • Real-time data synchronization
  • Scalable infrastructure for high-volume users
  • A growing API and developer ecosystem

…we needed to rebuild the system from the ground up.

Version 2 is that foundation.

A Fully API-Driven Architecture

The most important change in V2 is the transition to a fully API-based system.

Rather than relying on tightly coupled internal logic, Filametrics now operates through structured API calls that power both frontend and backend interactions.

Why This Matters

  • Enables seamless integration with external platforms
  • Allows modular feature development
  • Improves performance and system reliability
  • Opens the door for third-party developers and custom builds

This shift transforms Filametrics from a standalone tool into a platform ecosystem.

Transition to Self-Hosted Infrastructure

We have migrated away from third-party hosting providers and moved to a self-hosted environment.

Benefits of This Move

  • Greater control over performance and uptime
  • Reduced long-term operational costs
  • Improved security and system customization
  • Infrastructure built specifically for Filametrics workloads

This change ensures we can scale efficiently as usage grows without being limited by external platforms.

User System Migration: Kinde → Clerk

All user authentication and account management has been migrated from Kinde to Clerk.

Why Clerk?

  • More robust user management tools
  • Better support for multi-platform integrations
  • Improved developer experience for testing and staging
  • Future-ready authentication for API and ecosystem expansion

All existing users have been successfully migrated to the new system.

A Completely Reworked Filament Data Model

One of the most impactful user-facing changes in V2 is the redesign of how filament data is structured and managed.

What Changed

  • Standardized data structures for filament tracking
  • Improved compatibility with external print management tools
  • Foundation for automation and predictive analytics

Why It Matters

This new model allows Filametrics to move closer to:

  • Native integrations with popular print software
  • Advanced usage tracking and cost analysis
  • Cross-platform data synchronization

Data Migration & Legacy Support

To ensure continuity, we developed a custom migration system to carry over all existing user data into the new architecture.

Key Features

  • Full migration of existing filament and usage data
  • Intelligent handling of legacy data mismatches
  • Fallback access for non-standard or incomplete entries

No user data was lost and all historical information remains accessible.

UI Updates: A Preview of What’s Coming

Users will notice an updated sidebar and minor interface adjustments.

These changes were necessary to support the new data model but also represent the first step in a much larger UI/UX overhaul currently in development.

Ending the Code Freeze and Accelerating the Future

With Version 2 now deployed, the code freeze is officially over.

This marks a major turning point for Filametrics.

What Users Can Expect Next

  • Faster feature releases
  • Rapid bug resolution cycles
  • New integrations with 3D printing platforms
  • Expansion of the Filametrics API ecosystem
  • More advanced automation and reporting tools

The Bigger Picture

Version 2 is not just an upgrade; it is a strategic shift.

Filametrics is evolving from a filament tracking tool into a scalable, integration-first platform for managing modern print farms.

Thank You

To everyone who supported us during the code freeze — thank you.

Your patience made it possible to build this foundation the right way.

Now that it’s complete, we’re moving faster than ever.
