Strategic Development Pause Through 2025
Hey everyone;
We have an important update to share about the future of Filametrics and what we’re focusing on for the remainder of 2025. This is one of the most significant development moments we’ve had since the platform launched, and we want to be as transparent with you as possible.
Pausing New Feature Releases; Here’s Why
For the rest of 2025, we are pausing active development on new feature releases. This isn’t a slowdown; it’s a strategic shift.
Over the past few months we’ve signed multiple integration partnerships and unlocked opportunities that require deep foundational work to support. These aren’t small add-ons; they’re major system upgrades that will benefit every single user far more than releasing incremental features right now.
To deliver these properly and responsibly, we’re dedicating the next two months to upgrading the core of Filametrics from the inside out.
What We’re Building (And Why It Matters)
These are the major projects we’re prioritizing. Each one unlocks huge value for users and partners.
1. Migrating User Management (Kinde → Clerk)
Kinde has served us well, but their AU-based support window and limited integration flexibility have become blockers.
We’re migrating to Clerk to give Filametrics:
- Faster and more reliable authentication
- Broader compatibility with partner platforms
- A smoother long-term identity system
What this means for you:
Nothing changes for now; you’ll keep using the platform normally. When the migration launches, you’ll complete a quick account transition that takes under 5 minutes.
2. Private API + Personal Use API
One of the most requested features from our community. To build this right, we need significant core upgrades; and now is the perfect time.
We’re starting with a Private API for integration partners. Shortly after, we’re releasing a Personal Use API so makers, developers, and print farms can build custom workflows on top of Filametrics.
This opens the door to:
- Automations
- Custom app integrations
- Advanced tracking workflows
- Third-party tools and add-ons
This is a major leap forward for the entire ecosystem.
3. Data Model Revamp
To support the API, we’re fully modernizing our data model and structure.
This brings:
- Faster and more accurate data sync
- Better import/export options
- Stronger security
- Future-proofed architecture
And most importantly:
A community-driven filament catalog.
Your submissions and recommendations will power a constantly expanding, accurate filament library ; making setup easier and improving metadata quality across the entire platform.
This is a massive quality-of-life upgrade for everyone.
4. Full Support for Open Print Tag (OPT)
We believe Open Print Tag is going to become a major standard across the 3D printing world ; and we want Filametrics to support it natively from day one.
We’re rebuilding our systems so Filametrics can:
- Fully support OPT
- Support any OPT-like standard from other creators
- Provide richer filament data
- Offer easier and more accurate spool setup
This work lays the foundation for the next generation of filament tracking.
5. Companion iOS & Android App
While 90% of usage is desktop-based, a companion mobile app will add massive convenience for on-the-go actions like:
- Scanning
- Quick edits
- Tag interactions
- Notifications
- At-the-printer management
This feature is in early development and will evolve as the new architecture solidifies.
What These Upgrades Unlock (Fast Followers)
Once the new infrastructure is in place, we’ll immediately begin rolling out features that depend on it, including:
- Automatic printer management integrations
- Filament auto-reordering partnerships
- RFID and alternative tag system support
- LAN and Cloud support for Bambu printers
- Resuming work on future projects integrations
- Catalog expansions and improvements
These are big, meaningful upgrades that wouldn’t be possible without the work we’re doing now.
What This Means for You Right Now
- The platform will continue running normally
- You can keep tracking filament, using Projects, scanning tags, etc.
- Bug fixes and stability updates will continue
- New features will resume after these foundational upgrades are complete
This pause allows us to move forward in a way that’s smarter, faster, and more stable for everyone.
Thank You
We genuinely appreciate the support, feedback, and excitement you’ve all brought to Filametrics. This community is the reason these upgrades exist; your requests and ideas have shaped this roadmap more than you know.
This next phase sets Filametrics up for long-term success and makes room for the integrations and features you’ve been asking for.
If you have questions, ideas, or feedback, our door is always open.
Onward,
The Filametrics Team
